SeaTrace - Boat Smarter
Effective Date: May 1, 2026
Last Updated: May 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the SeaTrace mobile application
("Application"), available on iOS and Android, developed by the SeaTrace
Team. By using the Application, you agree to the collection and use of
information in accordance with this policy.
Information Collection and Use
The Application may collect certain information automatically when you
download and use it, including:
- Your device's IP address and device model
- Usage data (features used, screens viewed, session duration)
- App settings and preferences
- Operating system version (iOS / Android)
- Crash reports and diagnostic data for app stability
Location & Voyage Data You Provide
What We Collect
- Precise GPS location data used to record your boat's route while a voyage is being tracked
- Background location data, if you enable Automatic Voyage Detection, used to detect movement and start/stop tracking on your behalf
- Voyage details such as start and finish points, route path, distance travelled, elapsed time, speed, and heading
- Voyage names, timestamps, and any notes you add to a trip
- Device motion and speed data used to support automatic movement detection
- App settings and preferences, including tracking mode (manual or automatic)
- Subscription and account information
- Feedback or support messages you send us
How We Use This Data
- To record and plot your voyage route on an interactive map
- To calculate distance, elapsed time, speed, and heading for each trip
- To detect when your boat starts or stops moving, if Automatic Voyage Detection is enabled
- To let you replay a voyage with an interactive timeline and location playback
- To build and maintain your voyage history and lifetime boating statistics
- To save your personal settings and tracking preferences
- To improve app performance and feature quality
- To troubleshoot technical issues and enhance the user experience
- To process and manage your subscription
Your Location & Route Data
Your Voyage Data Is Private: We understand that location and
route data can be sensitive. Your GPS traces, voyage history, and personal
information are:
- Encrypted in transit and, where cloud-synced, at rest
- Never sold to third parties
- Never shared publicly without your explicit permission
- Used only to power your personal SeaTrace experience within the app
- Deletable at any time through the app settings or by contacting support
- Stored primarily on your device, with optional cloud backup
Background Location & Automatic Tracking
If you enable Automatic Voyage Detection, SeaTrace may access your location
in the background, including when the app is closed, in order to detect
movement and automatically start or stop recording a voyage. We treat this
data with particular care:
- Background location access is used solely to detect movement and record voyages — never for advertising or profiling
- Location data is never shared with insurance companies, employers, or third-party marketers
- You can disable Automatic Voyage Detection and background location access at any time in your device or app settings
- Manual tracking mode does not require background location access
Third-Party Services
We may use third-party services to help operate and improve the application.
These services may have access to anonymized or aggregated data only.
The Application uses the following third-party services:
- RevenueCat (for subscription management on iOS and Android)
- Mapping providers such as Apple Maps (for displaying and rendering voyage routes)
- Apple Analytics / Firebase (for app performance monitoring)
- Crashlytics (for stability reporting and bug tracking)
- Cloud Storage Services (for voyage and progress data backup and sync)
